The first five to ten years of a career are a critical time for technical women. Statistics show that is the period when many women transition out of the technical workforce, especially in engineering. The panelists will share personal experiences, discuss what employers are doing for those early in their careers and provide advice on the type of support that young professionals should be requesting.

| Kim Keating - Director of Projects. GJ Cahill & Company Limited
Kim holds a Bachelor of Engineering from Memorial University and is a registered member of the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador (PEGNL). She also holds her Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation and has completed her Masters in Business Administration. Kim is an elected member of the Memorial University Board of Regents, Executive 1st Vice Chair with the St. John’s Board of Trade, founding member of the International Women’s Forum NL Chapter, Chair of the Rhodes Scholarship in Canada regional selection committee and a past president of WISE NL (Women in Science & Engineering). Kim also participates on several advisory committees to both PEGNL and Memorial University. |
| Stacey Earle-Baggs - Project Manager, Iron Ore Company of Canada
Through IOC's Graduate Development Program, Stacey has held a variety of challenging and diverse roles as a technical advisor, project manager, and team leader in departments across the IOC project. Stacey brings valuable professional skills, effective interpersonal skills, and a positive attitude to her current role as Project Manager with IOC's Sustaining Engineering Department. As part of the Sustaining Engineering team, Stacey's leadership helped to successfully deliver the Oshkosh Striker fire truck, a critical player in IOC's emergency response capability, as well as implement software to manage capital expenditures that ensures capital projects are completed on time and on budget. In addition to her main role as Project Manager, Stacey is also an active participant in IOC's B3 Ergonomics and Contractor Management teams helping to improve health and safety initiatives at IOC. A native Newfoundlander, Stacey currently resides in Labrador West where she is an avid volunteer with Labrador West Girl Guides. |
| Michael Hanrahan - President and founder of petroforma inc.
Prior to his return to NL in 2004, Michael was with Irving Oil where he held senior positions. From 1997 to 2000, Michael was part of the management team for the $1billion Irving Oil Refinery expansion, the first major refinery expansion project in North America since 1980. Between 2001 and 2004, he led the Project Team for the first Liquefied Natural Gas receiving terminal in Canadian history. Concurrent with these activities, while at Irving Oil, Michael had responsibility in Canada and the United States for Government Relations, Health, Environment, Safety and Loss Management. Michael has participated on Working Groups with the National Roundtable on the Environment and the Economy, Environment Canada, and was the proponent for the first substantive change to the Rules of Origin under the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). He has advised the Senate Committee on Energy, Bank of Canada, and the National Energy Board. Michael's career philosophy is, "be first to do the right things and do the right things first." As a quiet champion of sustainability and diversity, Michael endeavors to ensure companies with which he is associated are committed to sustainable development and that their workforce mirrors the diversity of the industry it serves. petroforma drafted a commitment to have an ethnically diverse and gender balanced workforce before it had one customer.
