Student Summer Employment Program (SSEP)

The flagship Student Summer Employment Program (SSEP) provides grade 11 female students the unique opportunity to work in paid summer Science and Engineering Research Assistant positions. In addition, participants also benefit from networking opportunities, personal development activities, and workplace tours and training.

Program Goals

  • To provide young women with hands-on work experience in scientific fields
  • To encourage young women to consider careers in science and engineering fields
  • To show young women careers in scientific fields can be exciting and rewarding

Indigenous Youth Initiatives

Indigenous Youth Conferences have been offered to female and male indigenous high school students interested in learning more about career options in science and engineering. Students are encouraged to consider a career in these fields through professional development activities, mentoring and knowledge of the opportunities available. Students are encourage to share the information and promote opportunities in their schools, home communities among their peers. In 2017, WISE NL is offering day-long Remotely Operated Vehicle experiences to indigenous students.

K-12 Incentives and Awards

WISE NL regularly recognizes outstanding science and engineering projects and effort by female students in primary and secondary education through certificates, cash awards, other tokens of recognition, and publicity. Recognition may be in cooperation with other organizations.
